Härmä's HÄJY, Kauhava's KNIVES, the Jaeger Movemnent, Peasant Culture

Kauhava has a vibrant cultural life, including numerous annual events, an increasing number of recreational activities and a variety of distinctive museums.

The Kauhava summer is packed with culture: something the Knife Festivals, the Kalan Torppa Midsummer Festival, the Kortesjärvi Summer Days, the Härmälääset Häjyylyt Festival and the Ylihärmä Days certainly take care of. In the spring, the hilarious annual Finnish Lying Championship takes place around April Fool's Day. As fall turns to winter, Kauhava Week brings joy into the dark with its burst of culture.

Kauhava has a long history of amateur theater. You can see a quality production all year around. A wide selection of concerts are also available. Kauhava hosts a wide variety of cultural events all year long, ranging from children's theater to singalong evenings, from art workshops to classical music concerts, and everything in between.

The Kauhava Center for the Arts offers its visitors regularly changing art exhibits year around. July sees art take over all of Kauhava with interesting summer exhibitions. Kauhava is also proud to host up to 13 different museums offering visitors a chance to find out more about the Jaeger Movement, knives, traditional handicrafts or the cultural traditions of peasants.
