
Kauhava area’s military memorials
There are several significant monuments in the Kauhava area, especially related to the Jaegers and wars. Here are a few examples:
Jaeger monuments:
In 1915–1916, 115 men from Kauhava went to Germany for Jaeger training. Several monuments have been erected in their memory in different parts of the city:
- Next to Kauhava church: The oldest monument (1954), also serves as a gravestone for seven Jaegers
- Kortesjärvi and Alahärmä churchyards: Jaeger monuments
- Ylihärmä churchyard: Monument from 1966, designed by K. Lamminheimo
- Near the house of Isoo-Antti in Volti: Monument to 12 recruits from Alahärmä (1966)
- Osuuspankki yard: Stage monument to the activities of the Suomelan Kievar
