Knife and Textile museum and The Iisakki Järvenpää House

The Kauhavan Puukkomuseo (Knife Museum) knife exhibition showcases the origins, history, and makers of the knife industry in Kauhava, as well as the different stages and machinery involved in knife manufacturing. The museum houses knife collections from various makers, including antique rarities.

The Textile department presents the history of weaving in Kauhava. On display are woven goods and embroidery. A special feature is a button collection.

Master knifemaker Iisakki Järvenpää was a self-taught knifesmith from Kauhava, an exceptionally talented craftsman, and a significant developer of the Finnish knife industry. Iisakki Järvenpää, along with his cousin Juho Kustaa Lammi (1861-1901), is considered the creator of the traditional “Kauhavalainen” or Kauhava-type knife model, which is typical of the region. His home is located opposite the Kauhava’s main library.
