Lost or Missing Animal

If your animal is lost or has escaped, please notify Marjukka Nurmi, preferably by text message with a photo, at 0400 361 813. In addition to searching, make sure to use social media for announcements. There’s also an animal search dog available in the local area, so you might want to consider this option as well (ask for more information at the stray animal reception).

Stray Animals on Facebook

Marjukka Nurmi runs a Facebook group called “Kauhavan löytöeläimet” (Kauhavan stray animals). By joining this group, you can post a picture of your lost pet or share other related information.

Stray Animals

In the Kauhava area, Tmi Marjukka Nurmi receives stray animals. You can reach them at 0400 361 813.

Instructions for Found Animals

Please call 0400 361 813 (daily 9 AM – 8 PM) before bringing in an animal! When you call, you’ll receive the address and arrange a drop-off time for the animal. Animals taken into custody are held for the statutory 15-day period. During this time, owners can reclaim their animal. The reclaim fee is €20 per day (includes 24% VAT). Payment is cash only. After the 15-day period, tame, problem-free animals may be rehomed to a suitable family if one is found. If you are interested in offering a home to a stray animal, please contact Marjukka Nurmi.

Feral Cats and Animal Welfare

If you’re dealing with animal welfare issues or matters concerning feral cats, please contact the Seinäjoki Region Environmental Health Services. You can reach Seppo Kangas, Chief Hygienist, at 06 425 5700 or 040 823 4005, or Satu Koskela, Management Secretary, at 06 425 5715. Alternatively, you can contact your local veterinarian. These are the authorities responsible for trapping feral cats and informing nearby residents about trapping efforts.

Wild Animals

When you find an injured wild animal, contact the local veterinarian and, if necessary, take the animal for treatment. Similarly, an injured pet should be taken for immediate treatment if the injuries are severe.

If a wild animal is so badly injured that nothing can be done, you can also alert the authorities to euthanize the animal. If you cannot reach the authorities, you can inform us.

Call the emergency number 112 when public safety is significantly endangered, such as in a moose collision. More detailed instructions for collision situations can be found here.

NOTE: We do not have an animal transport service!

The Animal Welfare Act (247/1996) obliges each of us to help a wild animal in need. According to Chapter 2, Section 14 of the Act, an attempt must be made to help a wild animal that is sick, injured, or otherwise in a helpless state. However, if the animal is in such a condition that keeping it alive would be evident cruelty, the animal must be euthanized or arrangements must be made for its euthanasia.
